Curious about Reiki, or wondering whether this kind of training is right for you? Below are the questions we hear most often from new students — answered with the same warmth and honesty we'd offer you in person. If something here opens a new question for you, just reach out. We're here.
Reiki (pronounced "ray-kee") is a Japanese energy healing system developed in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui. The word translates roughly as "universal life energy." Reiki practitioners learn to channel this energy through their hands to support the body's natural healing processes — addressing physical tension, emotional stress, and energetic imbalances.
During a session or attunement, you may feel warmth, deep relaxation, a quiet sense of peace, or nothing in particular at all — every person's experience is different. The practice isn't about doing anything special; it's about allowing yourself to be a clear channel for the energy to move through.
Reiki is intended to complement conventional medical care, not replace it. It works alongside whatever else you are doing for your wellbeing — and many students find it deepens their meditation practice, their rest, and their sense of connection to the people around them.
No. Reiki Level 1 is designed for absolute beginners — there are no prerequisites, no readiness threshold, and no prior experience required.
Most of our students come as curious newcomers. Some are seasoned meditators with decades of practice behind them. Others have never sat with their eyes closed on purpose. Both are welcome, and both find what they need. What matters is showing up with openness.
Our courses are self-paced with AI-guided support from Aries Love, your personal spiritual guide, so you can move through the material at the pace that feels right for you. Ask questions at midnight, return to lessons a month later, take your time — the practice meets you where you are.
Reiki training is organized into three traditional levels (sometimes called degrees). Each level deepens both your skill and your energetic connection to the practice:
- Level 1 — Shoden ($197): Foundations, hand positions, self-healing, basic energy sensitivity, and an introduction to the body's energy anatomy. You receive your first attunement and are equipped to practice on yourself and others. No prerequisites.
- Level 2 — Okuden ($249): Three sacred symbols for power, mental and emotional healing, and distance healing. You learn to send Reiki across time and space, and to work with intention in a much more sophisticated way. Requires Level 1.
- Level 3 — Shinpiden ($375): The Master Teacher level. You receive the Master symbol, learn to attune and teach others, and step into the full path of practice. This is where Reiki becomes a way of life, not just a technique. Requires Level 2.
Most students spend several months working with each level before advancing — integration matters more than speed. Every course is self-paced with lifetime access and personalized AI guidance throughout. Explore the full curriculum →
This is the question we get asked most often, so we want to answer it directly.
Our courses are a self-paced video and lesson format, with Aries Love — your AI spiritual guide — available whenever you have questions about the material, your practice, or where you are in the journey. The structure works like this:
- Self-paced lessons. Move through the material on your own schedule, from your own sacred space. Most students complete a level in 4–8 weeks; some take longer. Both are fine.
- Remote attunement. The attunement — the sacred initiation that opens your channel to Reiki energy — is performed remotely with clear, step-by-step instructions you follow in a quiet space with intention. The energetic transmission itself is the same whether the attunement happens in person or at a distance. Energy is not bound by geography.
- Lifetime access. Return to the lessons whenever you wish. Many students revisit Level 1 material years later and notice things they missed the first time.
- Optional in-person community. Sacred Circle members join our monthly in-person Houston meetup on the second Saturday of each month, from 11am to 12:30pm (max 10 people). It's a chance for hands-on practice, community, and shared cups of tea.
If you've been waiting for an in-person class to become available, please don't let the online format hold you back. Many of our most dedicated practitioners began their training online.
An honest answer: Reiki is an open lineage practice transmitted teacher-to-student since Mikao Usui in the early 20th century — it is not a state-licensed credential, and there is no governing body that issues "official" certification.
What that means in practice is that what you're really choosing is a teacher and a lineage, not a certification body. SacredFlow is led by Aries Love, a practicing Reiki Master Teacher whose own training traces back through the traditional attunement line. Our courses follow the same attunement structure used across the lineage — Shoden, Okuden, Shinpiden — and prepare you to practice on yourself, your family, and private clients.
In Houston and beyond, certified practitioners from lineage-based training regularly collaborate with wellness centers, yoga studios, hospices, corporate wellness programs, and individual clients. What matters most in this work is the depth of your practice, the integrity of your teacher's lineage, and your own continued commitment — far more than any piece of paper.
If you have specific questions about a particular context you'd like to practice in, book a session with Aries Love — we can talk through it honestly before you commit to a course.
Still curious? The closest way to know if Reiki is right for you is to experience it. A 60-minute healing session with Aries Love lets you feel the energy directly — many of our students say their first session answered every question they had.
